I spent today at the design center with Heather, the design manager for Fielding homes. Let me preface by saying as humbly as I can — I am good with design. I know my style, I understand color almost intuitively, I can coordinate items together that others may not and it generally works out great.
Fielding sent files to demonstrate materials at many different levels of choice prior to our meeting this weekend. I studied and studied — I made a spreadsheet of my selections where I had pricing, which was every where but flooring and backsplashes because they figure these to the exact measurement to get the correct pricing. I have a vision for the new house and had that in mind while designing. Even with all that prep, it took me over four hours to make all the choices that will be our new home.
I was shocked and amazed when we were finished. I felt like I had just designed a custom home. No joke. There were that many choices. Craziness — in a good way.
Here’s what I landed on…
This is the kitchen — the granite has more white in it than the picture on the right shows which is why there is a picture of it on the left. So that’s the kitchen granite to include countertops and the island. We are doing a herringbone pattern with the gray subway tile for the backsplash and the cabinetry will go throughout the house.
The carpet is more of a greige — and it will only go in to the bedrooms upstairs. Everything else in the house is a handscraped chocolate hickory engineered hardwood — and it’s gorgeous. This includes the stairs and the upper hallways.
But the master bath, I believe, will be my favorite!!! Carrera flooring, the small squared tile will go in the mudpan of the shower, the subway tile will tile the two walls of the shower to the ceiling and the morrocan carrera tile will be a horizontal accent in the shower. It will be gorgeous. And soft. And feminine — sorry Frank! 🙂 So exciting.
I did give on some things. They have an amazing coffered ceiling in the gathering room of the model, and oh how I wanted it, but it was a ridiculously expensive option for something I will not actually use. So, my practicality kicked in. Other than that, Frank and I have everything we could ever want in a final home. In a dream home. So beautiful.
So happy to have all the choices made. Ready to get back home to my family. Ready to have my family here.
