I had the opportunity to attend my first weight loss class yesterday with a dietitian. Some of the class was stuff I already know, but some of it was new information and other parts were really great tips and tricks to help with the journey along the way.
One of the tips was to use a smaller plate. I never thought that mattered much, but I am amazed at how much less I eat when I do and still how satisfied I feel. Another idea was to download an app called “eat slower”. It literally is a timer for your meals. 20 minutes for breakfast, lunch and dinner and 5 – 10 minutes for your snacks. You can adjust the times to your likings, but it is for sure reminding me to eat slower. Pretty cool.
We also talked sugary drinks and sugar in general. Holy cow. A Rockstar energy drink, which a can is two servings, (but who does that?), contains 15.5 teaspoons of sugar. FIFTEEN. I would never sit there and chew down 15 teaspoons of the sweet granuals, but I for sure did almost as much when I drank coke, full octane, straight up. Whew. That’s a ton of empty calories and it’s bad on your arteries and veins to boot. Crazineness.
The class participants were really friendly. All of us in different stages of the same journey. It was nice to hear their perspectives and see where I fall. In some ways I’m ahead mentally, in some ways I’m just a baby starting out. I’m so thankful for all the support along the way.
