Seven years.
We moved into the house seven years ago come the end of February. We spent an entire week before move in painting all the rooms a soft coastal green/gray. As much as I have loved the pallette, seven years is about as long of a run for colors to feel “fresh”. I am ready for a redo.
We’re going with blue/grays this time around. It’s odd, I generally lean towards warms rather than cools, but I found a family of blues I really like. And I like them even better on the wall, which is good, because painting these walls with 10′ ceilings is no joke.
I’ve managed to update the mudroom (which never got painted at all in the first go-around), and I’m almost finished with the kitchen (which is really two rooms, kitchen and casual dining). Next I’ll tackle the family room and the downstairs hallway. I figure in a few weeks I’ll be done with the main floor. Ugh it’s a lot of work. I don’t know how my father did this, day in and day out for 40+ years. My body is exhausted.
Painting would be one thing, but one project often leads to other projects.
I can’t very well update the paint and leave the muddy gray window treatments hanging against the fresh wall color. And the muddy gray barstools look drab as well. So there we have it — a “no demo” complete reno underway.
I found the most beautiful curtains at Ballards (of course), but I don’t feel like taking on a second mortgage to outfit my entire house with them. Good night. I did settle on bringing in 4 panels just in the casual dining area. The rest of the house will get white linen curtains to coordinate and I’ll get some throw pillows to tie in the “fancy” curtains in the dining nook. The pattern is called Isadore, and they are lovely.

I’ll update as I go — but, here are a few shots for now…

Like the fancy curtains – they give the white chest, blue walls and accents a crisp pop. The fresh color throughout the house no doubt gives it a whole new feel. Well done.
