Nearly nine years ago, we came for a beach vacation to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and fell in love. It was the most peaceful place I’d ever spent a week in and I longed to come back. A year later, Frank asked how I felt about moving to Charlotte and seven and a half years later, we now call South Carolina home.
This weekend, for Mother’s Day, we and our friends have made our way down to the beach once again, a short 4-hour drive and we are back in paradise.
We literally pulled in, got into the rental, unloaded the car and Kenz and I were off to the sand and salt water. We played in the ocean waves while the sun was still out to warm our skin, and then we laid on our towels for another half-hour until the storms rolled in. So healing from the stress and storms of everyday life lately.
Today they are predicting rain — heavy rain for the day. That hurts my heart. I so wanted a full day at the beach. But, the alternative is to head an hour south and hang out in my favorite Southern city — Savannah.
With Mel and Jeff joining us for the weekend, I am just as excited to show them all. the. things. All the reasons we moved here on a whim. Savannah is one of those “things.”
Steeped in history and quaintness, it’s like every historical fiction novel come to life. Drippy mossy trees line nearly every street. Square after square of historic stories to tell. I’m almost as excited about going there as I am about my beach time.
So thankful to live where this is all accessible in a short drive. Maybe one day this will be my backyard.
